2023 Post-UTME Screening: How It Will Be Done and What Candidates Should Expect

;
A lot of candidates who wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the first time have been asking a lot of questions on how the Post-UTME Screenings are being conducted.
Post-UTME Screening
Firstly, let’s start by giving you a brief definition of the Post-UTME and how it is been conducted in all Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

Post-UTME screening – meaning Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is a method tertiary institutions use to ensure they pick qualified candidates for admission. The methods usually used by schools to achieve this include:
  •        i.            Online Screening
  •      ii.            Physical Screening and
  •   iii.            Aptitude Test Screening.

Some schools may use just one of these screening methods while some may use two or all three of these screening methods.

Nevertheless, most schools make use the Aptitude Test Screening in selecting the qualified candidates for admission.

Now let’s briefly explain what's involved in these 3 different methods of Screening.

1. Online Screening

In this case, you will be required to upload your results and other relevant documents on the school's portal. The school will then screen you based on how good your results are as well as the validity of documents and other information you submitted.
The documents you may need to upload include;
  • O’level result (WAECNECO or GCE)
  • JAMB result(original)
  • Birth certificate
  • Certificate of State/LG of origin
  • JAMB Direct Entry Registration slip(For Direct Entry candidates)
  • Passport
  • Jamb details(such as Registration number, subject combination etc)

2. Physical Screening

In physical screening, candidates will be required to come to the schools with all relevant documents to be screened.

The school may equally decide to conduct an oral interview for candidates. Students are advised to go to the screening in formal attire and ensure they look decent. One thing that will give you an edge in this case is the confidence you exude while answering the questions thrown at you.

3. Aptitude Test Screening

Here candidates will take an aptitude test as a form of screening. This is in form of an examination. It could be CBT (Computer Paper Test) or PPT (Pen and Paper Test). Many schools (if not all) now use this method to screen candidates. In this case, candidates are advised to get the Post-UTME Past questions of their school of choices in order to prepare adequately for the aptitude test Screening.

If you will be partaking in the Post-UTME screening of any school this year, all you have to do is to wait for your school of choice to announce its post-UTME Screening for this year, not until then, you cannot know the method your school of choice would adopt.
