The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure has said that the increment in the allowance of corps members would need to wait for the new national minimum wage to take effect.

Kazaure said this in Akure during the Annual Management Conference of the scheme, which coincided with its 45th anniversary. NYSC members Asked when the increment of corps members would take effect, the DG said:

“You know that the scheme is not different from the civil service and we would need to wait for the new national minimum wage to take effect.”

Kazaure added that the Federal Government has equally approved the enrolment of corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.

In her remarks, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Grace Akpabio lauded the DG for the clearance of backlog of unpaid staff allowances, nationwide distribution of wheelchairs to physically-challenged persons through the NYSC health initiative for rural dwellers intervention programmee and the procurement and distribution of ambulances, Hilux vans and motorcycles to the schemes formations nationwide for enhanced operation.
