The hope of lifting ban on the higher institutions in Nigeria has been dampened as the federal government insisted that there is no arrangement for such development.
Briefing pressmen on Tuesday, June 30, Sani Aliyu, the coordinator of the presidential task force on Covid-19, made this known as Nigeria begins another phase in relaxation of lockdown. Aliyu's position came on the heels of the decision of the federal government announcing "a safe reopening" of schools for the graduating classes nationwide.

The PTF coordinator said the government cannot afford to sabotage its efforts by reopening the tertiary institution. He added that all measures recommended and approved by President Muhammadu Buhari were geared towards flattening the curve of Covid-19 crisis.
Aliyu said the reopening of schools for graduating classes was necessary so as not to lose a whole year to coronavirus crisis. Aliyu, however, assured that the federal government will take "pragmatic measures" in ensuring that the education sector does not lose a whole year because of Covid-19 pandemic.

“Summarily, there is no plan to reopen tertiary institutions until we get to the top of the numbers and also see clearly that we are making significant progress in terms of flattening the curve," Aliyu said on a radio programme.
"However, we have taken pragmatic measures to ensure we do not lose a whole year in terms of primary to secondary school transition, hence the president’s approval for schools to reopen so that exiting students could return to school and write their examinations some of which are regional."

Meanwhile, report has it that as Nigeria begins another phase in the relaxation of lockdown, the federal government in its central response to Covid-19 fight has reeled out guidelines for workplaces.

The federal government made the announcement through the Federal Ministry of Health in accordance with the recommendation of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19. According to the health ministry, the guideline will help to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus and further assist in creating a conducive environment for workers.
